Yeonjai Choi explores the processes of "space" becoming "place" through the individual, subjective experiences that take place there. Choi recognizes the objective and abstract concept of "space" as an organic being that grows symbiotically with the experiences projected and remembered there.

"I enjoy observing the stories of cities (layered like crepe cakes) for long periods of time and painting them on canvas. I plan to draw the spaces in Tokyo I've seen and felt in this AIR 3331 residency with my colours."
