Residence Plan
While in Tokyo, I will continue my project „Project Orbis Interior/Orbis Exterior", which I have been developing since 2019. Initially, it was planned as artist research on the specific relationship to place, developed nowadays of complex causes by the Japanese hikikomori - socially detached, reclusive individuals who are hidden in a safe space of their homes. The pandemic reality and long-lasting lockdown unexpectedly changed the perspective and meaning of my project. Are we all to become like hikikomori - barely leaving our homes, choosing to live in isolation, and shunning the outside world?

Artist Profile
1) Born in Katowice, Poland, 1971
2) Graduated from the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wroclaw, Poland, 1996
3) Visual artist, curator, head of the Digital and Experimental Printmaking Studio at the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wroclaw, Poland

Base of Activity: Wroclaw, Poland
Media Used: Interdisciplinary printmaking and photography

Aleksandra Janik's use of print and photo media often explores her experience of a place, its people and their activity. She creates worlds which are a sum of her memory and imagination, and thus also fantasy, a deformation of recorded events. They are an artistic (re)construction of places, meetings with people, recordings of emotions and momentary feelings.
Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including the 56th International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia in Italy in 2015.
Supported by the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wroclaw, Poland
