Higashino Tetsushi

Higashino developed two projects during his residency at 3331. The first entitled "Pixie Pics" was an ongoing workshop in which participants were asked to draw their own original small character in response to the list of "special days" between the dates of the residency. Over 150 of these were collected and assimilated into one final picture exhibited alongside his other project, a series of installations depicting pranks which former pupils of the Rensei Junior High School may have played during their school days.

In this special artist in residency program 3331 entered into collaboration with a number of art centres and organizations across the Asia-Pacific to offer support for young artists and nurture professional development in the arts. 9 artists recommend by these arts organizations throughout Japan and the Asia-pacific came together at 3331 for 1 month, engaging in the local neighbourhood while producing new work. Through the many people and events they encountered, the discoveries and inspiration they were met with they developed their work, which was then finally presented in an exhibition in 3331's main gallery.
