Residence Plan
My residency project while at AIR 3331 would be working on another set of artworks to continue to expand my practice. I will start my first week at the residency collecting materials to use for collage. I would like to use recycled wrappers, stickers, magazines any sort of materials that are found locally and combine it with some of the materials I already have in my possession to create new work. I will also use my camera to document and then print so I have more options available for local materials and be able to combine in some buildings, document found items or anything really that grabs my attention and then use those also within my collage. After this, I will begin the second part of my process which is creating collages that are meaningful in some way. The third part is then painting these collages on to prepared wooden boards gallery exhibition. This part is the most time consuming as I paint each layer separately to transfer the idea of collage into painting. It will also be fantastic to do a workshop where I can show other people how I create the starting collages for my paintings.

Paige Nicholson (mainstfurby) is an emerging artist with an interest in collage and how that can be transformed through painting. Using an artistic method of first creating a collage from reused materials such as wrappers and magazines, the collage is created before being painted by hand on to wooden board. By painting each piece of the collage individually and layering, the idea of collage is able to be translated into painting. Through the language of painting and collage, Paige Nicholson uses symbolism and metaphors to start conversations surrounding topics both personal and universal.
