Stay, create and present in Tokyo with 3331 Arts Chiyoda's residence program
Residence Period: 2011.01.30-2011.03.03
Through the work developed during his residency Yoshihama aimed to instigate a new appreciation of the everyday sounds which surround us, but which we most often are unconscious of. In workshops he encouraged participants to listen to the sounds around them and to create their own compositions from these everyday noises. In his final work Yoshihama created a whole environment which alerted the viewer to the presence/absence of the tiny sounds of the everyday, presenting a responsive sound installation which automatically stopped when the viewer approached.

In this special artist in residency program 3331 entered into collaboration with a number of art centres and organizations across the Asia-Pacific to offer support for young artists and nurture professional development in the arts. 9 artists recommend by these arts organizations throughout Japan and the Asia-pacific came together at 3331 for 1 month, engaging in the local neighbourhood while producing new work. Through the many people and events they encountered, the discoveries and inspiration they were met with they developed their work, which was then finally presented in an exhibition in 3331's main gallery.
