Profile
Inês Miguel Oliveira (b. 1996, Guimarães, PT) is a Portuguese artist currently based in London.

Her practice employs painting and drawing as forms of self-analysis to explore how the desire for tenderness permeates trauma and memory. The sketchbook, like a diary where past and future collapse, is a living repository of characters, visual metaphors and abstract shapes which reassemble differently in each painting. In constant tension between the realms of clouded symbols and unfinished tales, personal and ancestral memories (cells, eggs, stars) express a webbing narrative.

Residence Plan
"To Eat the Sun" playfully imagines the sun as an entity that can be ingested, whilst standing as a metaphor for home and belonging. It embodies a desire to reconnect with one's origins, whilst simultaneously confronting the strangeness and instability of memory. Within the works, this symbol evolves and multiplies, generating new characters and visual metaphors that blur the boundaries between the personal and the mythical.

"To Eat the Sun" marks Inês Miguel Oliveira's first exhibition in Japan, presenting the results of her residency at Air 3331.
