Born in Htone Boo, Pandaung Township in Myanmar in 1980, and lives and works in Yangon. After studying painting at the University of Culture, Yangon in 2002 he began his career as a full-time artist. Taking intimate themes of childhood memories and experiences of his rural hometown and its unique culture, his work takes the form of installations and painting . He participated in the Singapore Biennale 2008 (in collaboration with Chaw Ei Thein and Rich Streitmatter Tran), The 4th Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale 2009 and various other group exhibitions both locally and internationally.
While investigating the movement of people through the neighbourhood, listening to their personal memories and hopes towards the future, Aung Ko will develop an installation and series of paintings based upon the past and present of Japan and Myanmar. As part of his installation he will use Japanese fabric to create the image of his home village.
